Back in January I posted my 01/08 eHow.com Earnings and explained how I was experimenting with making money by writing and posting a few articles.
I have found that this ad-revenue sharing content-based site is a great way to earn passive and reoccurring monthly income.
What’s great is that you write an article once, submit it and then earn money from it month after month and over and over again.
One thing I want to point out is that you’ve got to look at it as an investment. Meaning, you’ve got to give your articles some time to earn money for you.
Here’s a screenshot of some of my publish dates and earnings-to-date:

Remember, all I had to do was take the initial time to write each article and post it. Most articles only take between 30 minutes and an hour to write – once you figure out what to write about. I noticed that once I became familiar with eHow and got a little practice, the whole process got easier. I’ve written and posted about 30-35 articles so far.
Now, here’s a screenshot of my monthly earnings:

A few things to point out:
First – all my articles but 2 were written and posted during Aug, Sept, Oct and Nov of 2007. This illustrates that writing and posting these articles takes an intial investment of time and then some patience to allow them to generate passive and reoccurring income.
Second – back in January eHow changed their article format (which I didn’t know about) which made my articles all jumbled together and hard to read. I figured this out when I noticed a decrease in my earnings in Jan & Feb 2007. So, I had to re-format my articles. Once I did this my earnings started to increase again.
Third – once you post articles on eHow you can always go back and edit and/or tweak them. This is a wonderful feature folks! For example, I’ve gone back and edited a few of my articles’ categories and keywords and got better performance.
I’ve done a few articles on Helium.com and AssociatedContent.com but haven’t done nearly as well. After several months on Helium, I’ve just now reached the minimum payment amount of $25. And, I think I’ve earned about 4 cents on AssociatedContent so far.
So, if you want to try eHow, the best way to get started is sign up for eHow’s Writer Compensation Program. I only wish eHow had a referral program so I could earn money for referring and telling people about their site!
I’m looking for more writer compensation programs. Know of any?

Check your PPP account for a PPP Direct Opp – you might find something there ;^)

3Wow, that’s indeed a nice income stream you have. And it will just keep coming. I just might join myself.

Do you know what caused the giant leap in earnings during your third month? I am coming up on my 3rd month with e-how soon!!!

5Julian,
Great – 30 articles is a good and solid base.
I noticed a increase in my earnings after I went back and tweaked and edited some of my articles. For example, go to your ehow account and for each article make sure you have included relevant keywords and have put your articles in relevant categories. Also, make sure that you’re using your keywords in your articles. This really helped me alot.
Another thing – try to include a couple photos or graphics in your articles. Articles where I’ve included a photo or two seem to do best.
Remember, give your articles TIME. Seriously, I can’t stress this enough. Some articles will take a couple months before you start seeing gain in popularity.

7Hey, Thanks for sharing your earnings… A lot of people like to keep it a big secret. I’m in my 3rd month of earnings and I see thats when you had your first big jump in revenue! I was wondering if you were active in the eHow community after you wrote you articles? Did you comment and rate other articles frequently?

8I love ehow. I have been there since late January and have been very happy with the results. I have been active in the community from day one. I believe that is why I was successful after just a few months. However I would also like to know if you where active the whole time at ehow. Just to compare if it makes any difference. Thanks, amy

10Hi! I just browsed the site and found reliable information on how I can earn more than what I currently do. I have tried to post articles in some other sites but I have not earned from them fairly well. This is a real good opportunity then. Thank you for sharing.

11I have heard a lot of good things about eHow, I will have to try them out….Have you tried Hubpages? some say they are earning continued revenue from the hubs they write, also they are making money from the adsense, kontera, amazon and ebay too!
